Botox® Treatment for Facial Wrinkles

Botox® is a medically approved, purified protein, that can cause temporary relaxation of targeted muscles. By injecting Botox® into isolated muscles, one can prevent the wrinkling that results from selected facial expressions. Among the most common areas treated include, the “crow’s feet” around the eyes, the “worry wrinkles” on the forehead, and the central forehead “glabellar” crease between the eyebrows.

The product is extremely safe, and has been used for medical purposes for over 20 years. There have been no reports of systemic “botulism” arising from the use of medical grade Botox®. The injections themselves are likened to “minor bee stings”, and usually well-tolerated by even the most sensitive patients.

The results of Botox® are usually noticed within 5-7 days of the treatment. The duration of effect averages 4 months. There is no cumulative risk of repeat treatments, and no harm if only a solitary treatment is performed. The “downtime”, or time to recover following treatment is minimal – people can return to work immediately following their appointment.

Botox® is not appropriate for someone who is pregnant, breastfeeding or diagnosed with a disease affecting the neuromuscular system. For additional information visit www.botox.com

Botox® Treatment for Excessive Sweating

Botox® is FDA-approved for the treatment of severe underarm sweating. By blocking the chemicals that trigger the sweat glands, Botox® can dramatically reduce sweating. The effects may take up to a month to be fully apparent, but usually are noticed within the first week of treatment. Most people find that their results last anywhere from 4-9 months. Success rates can vary, but one clinical study demonstrated a greater than 50% reduction in sweating in 84 out of 104 (81%) Botox® treated patients. If there is significant sweating following the initial treatment, a follow-up treatment can target the remaining sweat glands by identifying them first with a non-invasive “starch iodide” test.
